Holy Cross Sugar Land Announces New Rector and Exciting Vision for the Church
Sugar Land, Texas - Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Sugar Land has called the Rev. Scott Allan Thompson, to lead the congregation as rector. Thompson, previously rector of an Episcopal Church in Wisconsin, will celebrate his first Sunday at Holy Cross on March 9, 2008 at 8:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
In a letter to the families of the church, Thompson said, “Holy Cross is a phenomenal place! There is so much love at Holy Cross, so much faith in God, so much dedication to his Word, so many gifts present and active. As far as I am concerned, the future is wide open [at Holy Cross] and the sky is the limit!” Sr. Warden of Holy Cross, Tom Richards said that the church looks forward to a period of rapid growth in the community with such enthusiastic leadership. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Thompson’s first love was music and to play the drums as a professional musician in a rock band. He became focused on full-time ministry in his mid-teens and received his BA in Biblical studies from Grace School of Theology in 1986, and a master of theology from the Dallas Seminary in 1991. He received a certificate in Anglican studies from Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary in 1999.
Thompson will help the church realize its newly developed mission and vision that calls for “significant growth” and outreach into the Sugar Land community. "With 40 acres of prime property on the Grand Parkway,” said diocesan Bishop Don Wimberly, “We hope Holy Cross will gather many new and fresh faces to the family through their contemporary and family-oriented worship,” he added.
Thompson, his wife Linda and daughter Victoria, 10 along with the congregation of Holy Cross invite everyone to visit the church any Sunday for a closer look at their contemporary worship and music, ministry and children and youth programs. On Easter Sunday March 23rd, there will only be one service at 10:00 a.m., with also an Easter Egg Hunt for the children. Visit www.HolyCrossChurch.com for more information.
