Lay Chaplains serving the congregation and neighbors of Holy Cross by being “present” in a listening, compassionate, non-controlling manner … for the purpose of consciously or unconsciously representing God to them and seeking to respond to their spiritual needs.
Lay Chaplains are trained “listeners,”listening with the ear of the heart; aware of and pledged to confidentiality. - Caring - Compassionate - Confidential Prepared by 14 weeks (42 hours) of initial training & continuing education; pledged to regular worship, prayer, & reading the Rule of Benedict; committed to monthly Circle of Care support meetings; the Pastoral Care Team ministers to the sick, homebound, homeless, troubled, bereaved, distressed, and others as needs arise. The Community of Hope … “a school for God’s service” … helping to create Christian communities of volunteer lay chaplains united in prayer, shaped by Benedictine spirituality, and equipped for and serving in pastoral care ministries.
