Scott Thompson, Rector

Holy Cross called Scott Thompson to lead the congregation as Rector in late 2007. Scott was previously rector of New Life Episcopal Church in Mosinee, Wisconsin. He is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. His first love was music and he had a desire to play the drums as a professional musician in a rock band. He became focused on full-time ministry in his mid-teens. Scott received his BA in Biblical Studies from Grace School of Theology in 1986, and a master of theology from the Dallas Theological Seminary in 1991. He received a certificate in Anglican studies from Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary in 1999. 

Scott and his family live in the Sugar Land area. He enjoys spending time with his family, singing, playing the guitar and drums, reading, running, weightlifting, and riding his motorcycle. His passion is the local church and seeing lives transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.


Steve Ettling, Director of Music and Worship

Steve Ettling joined Holy Cross in April 2017. Steve is a graduate of the Musicians Institute (Hollywood, California) and is not only a seasoned worship leader, but an accomplished instrumentalist.

Steve is passionate about what he does and he knows why he does it; to glorify God and invite his people to worship God in Spirit and truth.



Kari Richardson, Director of Children's Ministry

Kari Richardson joined Holy Cross in October 2017.  Kari is very Scripture centered in her personal life and in her ministry. She has a passion for leading children and their families in Bible-based spiritual formation that is also culturally relevant. She is a teacher, and a teacher of teachers, with 25 years of ministry experience. 

Kari is a graduate of Texas Christian University (B.S. Social Work) and Bethel Seminary (St Paul, MN) from which she received a Master of Arts in Children’s and Family Ministry. Kari has served in congregations of varying denominational affiliation, and is a training specialist for Group Publishing.  Kari lives in Missouri City, Texas.


Adam Gully, Director of Youth Ministry

Adam Gully joined Holy Cross Church as Director of Youth Ministry in October 2019.  He is a contagious believer in Jesus Christ with a deep Christ-like love for teens and a passion for taking people beyond casual conversation to the things in life that matter most.  Adam is a proven leader and team builder who shares the Word of God with deep conviction and a compassionate understanding of the human condition. 

Adam is a graduate of the University of Mobile (Alabama) (2007), and lives in Fort Bend County with his wife Amanda and their two children.



Jessica Nelson, Director, Holy Cross Kids Preschool

Jessica Nelson was selected as Director of Holy Cross Kids Preschool in August 2016.  Jessica previously served as assistant to the director for three years prior to assuming the leadership of the school. Both of Jessica's children attended and graduated from the Preschool in years past.

Jessica holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with minor in Business from Auburn University and Master of Science in Child Development and Family Studies from Purdue University.  

Jessica and her family have been active members of Holy Cross for several years.  She brings an in-depth knowledge and experience to the existing operations and a strong background in child development. Jessica, her husband and two children live in Sugar Land.



Laura Avila, Office Manager

Laura Avila joined Holy Cross in June 2018. Laura is responsible for the day-to-day office and administrative duties for Holy Cross.  Laura's past experience in business management has been a great fit at Holy Cross as our Office Manager.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M University and a MBA degree from the University of Houston.

Laura is also active in her community, serving on the PTO board at her children's school. She and her family live in Sugar Land, Texas
